The Possibilities, Pt 1: What lights you up?

In my daily coaching I regularly meet people who enjoy great success in their careers, yet feel they’re missing something or perhaps fearful of what lies ahead.

Fear and anxiety resonate with me: when I’m ‘futurizing’, I know these emotions well. Thankfully, I’ve learnt that anxiety or fear never arise when I am present.

When futurizing, I’ll notice that I’m not ‘grounded’, instead I’ll second guess myself with an overload of future speculation. In the past I convinced myself it was easier and safer to relate to my role as a Managing Director, my salary or the car I drove. I’d prioritise a late night email over fitness, healthy eating or my family. My perceived value was my work and its trappings.

I know it isn’t just me, it applies to many executives I coach and colleagues I’ve worked with around the world.

A fun way to shift from anxiety to the present moment, and step into our own value, is to explore and own what ‘lights you up’ - called the Zone of Genius!

What am I doing when my heart sings? What am I doing when time slips by? What am I doing when I have people in the palm of my hand?’

The thing that lights me up is helping a leader see their possibilities and unlock their dreams. I’m energised daily in my ability to help a leader experience this for themselves. It grounds me in the present moment.

It took me many years of corporate and personal experiences to understand what lights me up, and to appreciate and own my zone of genius. So I decided to build a framework to support leaders step into their power. It applies to anyone who wants to make more of a difference and achieve sustainable results on all levels, reduce anxiety, manage fear better and have fun!
