Our sporting heroes… seizing the moment
It was Thursday night and I was rocking and swaying, having an out of body experience, riding emotional high and lows watching my football team (Carlton) win by the slimmest of margins…1 point.
You name it, every emotion is experienced watching my team each week. An ‘out of body’ experience, full of drama, worrying about the result and wondering whether I’m really watching the game!!
Carlton (the Blues) have been given the moniker ‘Cardiac Carlton’ for their habit of very tight finishes and the rollercoaster performances.
During the post-match debrief, the winning formula was recognised as the team or individual that was more ‘present’ to the moment, more connected, more often.
Being present. Being connected. Moment to moment. Choose your sport. Choose your champion or champion team.
How plausible it seems and yet how mysterious we make it when it comes to the leadership of our own lives.
Why do we often find our minds drifting off in business and daily life?
… lost in thought
… tangled up in worries that usually turn out to be nothing more than stories.
Haven’t we all experienced zoning out during a conversation or believing we can do multiple things at once. Haven’t we all let the moment slip by? An opportunity lost.
Here is a cool invitation to myself… becoming more aware of when I am not present… is presence itself.
So whether I’m watching the Blues or leading my way through life and business, I’m taking a leaf from the experiences of my sporting heroes.
Moment to moment… building my awareness around what’s here and now. Building connection and seizing the opportunity right in front of me.
Invite yourself to be more present and connected, just like your own sporting hero.
